Out with Greige. Color is in for 2021!

April 13, 2021

If you’re uninspired with all the shades of pale gray, the popular home paint color during the last year or more, look to the new hues of 2021.

Every year paint companies release their 2021 color predictions. Changes the pandemic has brought to our lives in 2020 influenced their choices. For example, Sherwin-Williams’ Urbane Bronze suggests serene and calm. It’s a cozier shade of brown, not too dark, that paired with lighter furnishings, conjures a restful air.

Behr’s updated palette has four design themes to evoke a spirit of revival, optimism, and serenity — Mindful Escape, Curated Clarity, Optimistic Glam, and Dramatic Revival — that create a mood in homeowners’ spaces. The colors curated in their palette usher in “more of what the world needs right now: Elevated Comfort.”

Benjamin Moore selected Aegean Teal, a bold color it says “is deeply soothing and creates a natural harmony.”

If you still love gray but want a refresh, look to the Pantone Color Institute. It picked two colors — the familiar gray and a pop of yellow — for 2021. “A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter; this is essential to the human spirit.” Who doesn’t love a sunshiny yellow?!

Even if you’re not planning to repaint, visit the paint company sites to learn how they chose colors, how to pick accent colors, and ways to use color to update your home’s atmosphere.
